EMPHASIS IN INFORMATION SECURITY


Program Length

This program offers 39 semester credit hours.

Program Description

The Information Security program track provides the student with an understanding of security issues, problems, and solutions including topics such as design techniques, access controls, cryptography, encryption, and firewalls. This program also includes an overview of computer forensics, computer forensic software, and techniques for capturing and analyzing data from various digital storage media.

Work Places

Work places include businesses in the public and private sectors, including for profit and not for profit organizations. The specific duties of an entry level Information Security Officer --responsible for establishing and maintaining the enterprise vision, strategy and program to ensure information assets are adequately protected-- will often vary from office to office due to office size, location, and specialty.

Professional Preparation

Specific program objectives are designed to provide graduates with an understanding of network concepts, operating systems, design techniques, access controls, cryptography, encryption, and firewalls related to security issues, problems and solutions. Students is exposed to key issues associated with protecting information assets, determining the levels of protection and response to security incidents, and designing a consistent, reasonable information security system, with appropriate intrusion detection and reporting features.
